Introduction
In delivering ‘social science that makes a difference’ in South Africa and the region, the Research Programmes of the Human Sciences Research Council initiate and undertake policy-oriented research projects and programmes from its offices in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg, and Pretoria. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act of 2008.

The Economic Performance and Development (EPD) research programme of the Human Sciences Research Council requires the services of a Graphic Designer to provide high quality services over a period of 10 days to help visualize ideas and tell stories through visual executions in the field of tourism and heritage studies.

This services is part of the HSRC’s assignment for the Buffalo City Metropolitan Development Agency (BCMDA) in relation to service to undertake research, facilitation and programme design support on the BCMDA tourism Infrastructure Master plan.

•Study design briefs and determine requirements
•Conceptualize visuals based on requirements.
•Be able to shoot and edit fresh content, both stills and video material.
•Prepare rough drafts and present ideas.
•Develop illustrations, using software.
•Test graphics across various media.
•Amend designs after feedback.
•Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand.

Requirements
The candidates should exhibit the following key requirements:
•BA Visual Communication degree At least three years’ commercial or educational experience.
•A strong portfolio of illustrations or other graphics.
•Familiarity with design software and technologies.
•Strong knowledge of marketing and visual communication.
